In this post we are going to discuss how to add a domain on Microsoft Office 365 Cloud
The Microsoft Office 365 suite is a hosted, online version of the traditional installed version of Microsoft Office software. This online service is subscription-based and includes Microsoft Office, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Skype for Business
The advantage of the Microsoft Office 365 suite is that the cloud service is provided by Microsoft and, thus, eliminates a company’s IT maintenance tasks, such as patching, and infrastructure support costs. For end users, the advantage is the ability to access Office 365 offerings using any device anywhere with an internet connection.
IT administrators access the Microsoft Office 365 suite from a web-based portal to set up new user accounts, control access to features and see the status of all Office 365 services and tools.
Office 365 Portal- http://portal.office.com
Every Organization has a domain name. This domain name has to be associated with office 365 so that users can receive emails on the domain’s email address and they can chat using the email address on Skype to Business
First we need to have a valid domain that we own. We can buy a domain from godaddy.com or other domain hosting portals
Now we need to Create a trial account for Office 365 Enterprise E3 License

Now access your Office 365 trial account and go to Admin Center
In Office 365 Admin Center, Under Setup, Select Domains and Add a new domain that we own.
Type your domain name and click on next
Now we need to verify our domain. Microsoft Office 365 gives you a TXT record that you need to create in DNS on your web hosting portal like www.godaddy.com or www.name.com
See the TXT record in below picture
The picture below shows how we need to add the TXT on Domain hosting portal www.name.com
Once the TXT record is added we need to wait for few minutes and click on verify domain.
After the domain gets verified click on next
There are 2 ways DNS can be managed
Office 365 Manages the DNS Records- In this we let office 365 cloud to manage all the DNS records like MX,A,SPF etc. This makes DNS updates easy to manage. This method is automatic and error free. We just need to update the Office 365 Name Servers in our domain registrar records.
We Manage the DNS Records- In this we update the DNS records on the domain registrar. This method is manual and prone to errors.
We need to add office 365 Name Server in our domain regsitrar if we want Office 365 to manage the DNS records
Once we select “Setup my online services for me” Click on next and Finish.
